In the 20's and 30's people began to venture out along the roadways of rural America just to enjoy the ride and to visit different places of interest along the way. At this time in history hotels were generally located close to town centers and convenient for rail passengers. Tourist Camps popped up all along the back roads in between towns as an inexpensive alternative to hotel stays. Beds, sheets, towels, showers and toilets were offered to the Tourist Camp guests and many often enjoyed an evening by a campfire sharing stories of where they had traveled and what they had found interesting on their way. The Tourist Camp was not only a place to lay your head at night but an opportunity to meet fellow travelers you might not have the chance to know just in passing in the halls of a downtown hotel. tipi camp asheville is modeled after those Tourist Camps from days gone by. Since opening in 2009 we have enjoyed the company of travelers from all across the U.S. and even some from as far away as Australia! ...and we look forward to meeting you, Jay and Lani Linkotter, your camp hosts |

tipi camp asheville a great hotel alternative while vacationing in the mountains!
tipi camp asheville is a small Tourist Camp which will accommodate, at most, 16 guests per night. We have no RVs, no generators, and we are all adults. (at least we like to think so) We are less than 7 miles to the center of Asheville and just 2 paved miles from Interstate 40. As Nick, one of our guests, wrote " It's just far enough out of town to be peaceful and not so far as to be inconvenient."
a very brief history of the Tourist Camp in the United States
reservations required
We had so many wonderful guests last season, from Germany and Ireland and all over the US! We had bagpipes and roasted Starbursts by the fire (yes, the candy, you gotta try it) We even saw 4 moons of Jupiter through a hand crafted telescope and just generally had a wonderful, good time. Come help us create more great camping experiences in 2012!
